[Collector announcement]; Luke Gallon, recorded at home in Ugthorpe; talks about mineral rights on the moors near Ugthorpe; land owned by a relation, and associated rights; the local bacon factory; modern and traditional songs, sung by his sons at school and after quoits matches; the integration of newer songs into the quoits singing tradition (example, 'Now is the Hour'); singing at the Quoits Supper - refusal by some people, possibly now too many attending (including strangers, and those invited from other villages); Jack Foster; song ownership and singing other people's songs; fighting (rare); singers' repertoires; being called up to sing; changes (awareness of drink driving); singing prizes donated by local traders; quoits club meetings; substituting poor singers, but no criticism, only praise for effort; good singers - George White; starting a sing; stories/recitations part of the tradition; cup winner filling the cup with alcohol; talk of local people who emigrated to Canada; the
