[Collector announcement]; William Hart, recorded at home in Wilton ; sings 'Out in the Wild World'; talks about his father and his employment on local farms and ironstone mines, his death in 1930; WH born 1888/1889; sings 'We're Only Two Boys from the North', 'I am a Boy that Did Wrong to His Parents' and [ 'There was a Rich Farmer in Cleveland'], written by WH and his father; grandfather owner of Norton Pottery; [?grandfather's] farm work on the ? Kirkleatham Estate, as woodman; love of horses; wife's family; song repertoire; sings 'Guisborough Fair' [interruption from dog]; sings song again; sings [ 'On the Cleveland Banks']; sings part of 'Now Here We are Two Jolly Old Pals', [first line: 'The snow coming down, they could not get to town'], 'Farmer's Boy', 'All Jolly Fellows that Follow the Plough' and [ 'Farewell Friends and Kind Relations'].


General conversation re. collector's visit and Tony Green's absence; family in Australia; recites the dialect poem, 'Spirits of Tar', and another unidentified recitation; learning and memorising recitations and songs; family's singing tradition; the village of Wilton, oldest residents [WH's daughter contributes], influence of ICI on the village; the Seaman's Mission and sporting activities; sings 'I'd Never Tell a Lie This Day'; smoking, chewing tobacco while working in the mines, cigarette prices, health, cigarette cards (Boer War generals); sings 'Ten Little Nigger Boys'; family singers; local changes, including the sale [?in the 1940s] of the Leroy-Lewis Estate; the Kirkleatham Estate.
