Lenny Savage, recorded at home in Snape on the 18 July 1974; talks about his childhood, work on a rabbit farm and with steam engines; singing and step dancing (including women dancers) at the Ship Inn, Blaxhall - singles/pairs/fours, accompanied by a button accordion; accordion player Fred List; women singers; Velvet Brightwell; quoits teams and post-match singing; bell ringing; Cyril Poacher, Lenny Savage, Freddie Ling and song ownership; LS's song repertoire; Geoff Ling and George Ling - comments on singers and singing style; Percy Ling of Tunstall; the Lings of Blaxhall and nicknames; sings 'The Foggy Dew' and 'Nancy from Yarmouth'; conversation, including Mrs. Savage, about pubs. Percy Webb, recorded at home in Tunstall Common on 19 July 1974, gives biographical details; working life, including farm work as head horseman and working with show horses; comments on Bob Hart; learning songs from his father; favourite songs; learning songs from twopenny song papers; supernatural experiences in the childhood home, and in the trenches during World War One; anecdotes re. being in the Army in India after the war.
