Description

Bob Hart, recorded at home in Snape on 17 July 1974; sings 'City of Laughter'. [Tr. 1]. Conclusion of session which starts on tapes LAVC/SRE/A340r and LAVC/SRE/A341r.


Bob Hart, recorded at home on 20 July 1974; sings 'All Through the Night' and 'Maria My Girl'[second song completed at third attempt]; discusses his singing voice; sings 'Paradise Street' (learned and sung at sea); sings 'Pack Up Your Troubles', 'Long Trail A-Winding' and 'Tanks in Picardy' (all learned serving in the Army during World War One); war injuries, pension, work after the war (some for the Wentworth family).


Bob Hart sings 'When the Sunset Turns the Ocean Blue to Gold' [incomplete]; sings 'The Lincolnshire Poacher', learned from a singer (? Larkins); discusses songs with the same tunes, a pub session the previous night [?at the Ship Inn, Blaxhall] and the singing of Percy Ling, Percy Webb and Cyril Poacher; song ownership and the giving of songs to other singers; sings 'There's No Place Like Home' [incomplete], sung as a youngster (mother also sang it); sings 'If I Were a Blackbird' [incomplete] and 'What a Funny Little Place to Have One'; sings 'No Man's Land' (World War One); explains his work as a maltster at the Maltings, Snape.
