Description

Session recorded at the Everyman Folk Club, Leiston Sports Centre, on 12 July 1974. Bob Hart sings 'Comrades'[incomplete] and 'What a Funny Little Place to Have One'; Percy Webb sings 'Flash Company' and 'She's Proud and She's Beautiful'. [Tr. 1]


Bob Hart, recorded at home in Snape on the 13 July 1974; he and the collector discuss the session recorded in Leiston the day before; comments on other singers, including Percy Webb and Percy Ling, audience reaction; drink; compares pub singing at the Key in the past with now; changes after World War One; delivery of beer on drays from Sothall; pub singing in the 1920s/1930s - women's involvement; changes and the younger generation; pub singing in the 1950s/1960s - taken more seriously now than then; talks of Percy Ling and Jack Foreman.


Talk of singers at the Crown pub; sings 'Break the News to Mother'; songs and memories; reference to the Boer War; attempts 'All Through the Night'[remembers the tune and some words]; sings 'After the Ball is Over'; frequency of singing; compares/contrasts himself with other singers; comments on performers at Leiston Folk Club and his choice of songs; sings 'A Ring for the Girl I Love'; comments on pitching a song.
