Bob Hart, recorded at home in Snape, relates biographical details, including working on the land and at sea; his experience of World War One (wounded 1916); homecoming and work at the Snape Maltings; family; learning songs whilst at sea (shanties); recording songs commercially; repertoire; sings 'White Wings'; transmission and learning of songs - memorisation; sings 'Bold General Wolfe' - discusses the song's date and General Wolfe, learned from John Harland; pub singing; kitchen dances; folk clubs; step dancing in pubs; family (hymn) singing; schooling, including Sunday School; importance of the story in song.


Sings and discusses 'Banks of the Sweet Primroses'; sings and discusses 'The Song of the Thrush'; sings 'Australia' and discusses its transmission; sings 'Tom Bowling', and talks of learning it and singing it at sea; sings 'Miner's Dream of Home' (learned from his uncle); sings 'Bold Princess Royal' and discusses pirates and smuggling.
