Archie Dagg, recorded at home [in Sharperton], talks about making Northumbrian small-pipes; woods used for chanters; positioning of keys; interest in carving and music; family's musical traditions; hornpipes; own compositions; learning pipe playing with Billy Pigg; Northumbrian and Highland pipes compared; having a good ear; use of bellows; what makes a good piper; piping styles; pipe-making techniques; describes his own methods, materials used and processes involved; reed making - materials, size and setting; plays a set of pipes made by himself; drone stock and chanter stock, positioning of the reed; no apprentice pipe-makers; drills and the turning of drones; playing style, differences from Irish and Scottish pipes; plays own composition ( 'Foxglove Hornpipe'); chanters.
