Description

Junior Crehan, recorded in Mullagh (County Clare), plays a number of fiddle tunes, and in between talks about from whom he learned some of them (slow airs, dance music); also talks about a pipe player playing at local fairs; the pipe player Willy Clancey; Gaelic tune re. a boating accident (recites words of song); discusses Gaelic language and its teaching in schools; learning the fiddle as a boy, playing for dances/weddings, comments and help from Teddy Casey; playing style, tempi; comments on commercial recordings and their effect on live music making; learning tunes; playing for dances at country houses (in kitchens, c. 100 people).


Talk of Dancing Master and picking up a tune; describes movements to a set dance; discusses playing technique and musicians for country house dance sets; comments on current fiddlers.
