Recordings made in Middlesmoor. Male informant tells the story of George Sunter selling two dogs at Richmond market; male informant tells the story of the horse Stockton Maggie; the Devil appearing to Jack Bell; male informant relates an anecdote concerning an American farmer visiting the Dales. [Recorded in a pub. All but the last story are copies of recordings on tape LAVC/SRE/A239r.] [Tr. 3]
George Metcalfe relates the story of farmers at ?Hayden Carr, and their dogs chasing an old woman/hare; the wise woman of ?Roscar and the missing sovereign; haunting of a house by a nun/nurse in High Lofthouse; anecdote re. a telephone; the Relief of Mafeking and the announcement at Middlesmoor. [Tr. 4]
Male informant relates stories concerning buying/selling pigs and horses; a farmer buying back his own horse; a man who overslept; a visit to the Royal Show at Harrogate. [Tr. 5]
