Male informants in conversation in a pub [?in Ramsgill, November 1970], talking about Dead Mans Hill; Yorke's Folly; the ghost of a monk at Bewerley Hall; the Yorke family.


Male informants recorded in conversation in a pub [?in Pateley Bridge, December 1970], talking about inter-village/town rivalries; relating humorous local dialect anecdotes; talk of a haunted house; male sings 'My Old Man Said Follow the Band' (with ?ukulele accompaniment), followed by a medley of other songs. [Tr. 7]


Fred Longthorne, in conversation at home in Greenhow (North Yorkshire), March 1971, relating local anecdotes and recollections of practical jokes played; reads from a book on Greenhow (re. farming and leadmining) and the legend of John Kay and the tradition of tapping his headstone with shoes.

Mrs. Calvert, recorded at home in Pateley Bridge [?in March 1971], relating local anecdotes and reminiscences; tells a story of a tailor; Mrs. Calvert's brother, John Swales, also present and talks about poaching; witches and shapeshifting (hares); a witch doctor at Ripon; Mrs. Calvert relates story of a haunted cottage and storm over Pateley Bridge.
