Donald Mackay's B.A. study (Leeds, 1971), 'The Tradition of Pub Singing in the Villages of East Suffolk, With Songs from Bob Hart of Snape and Percy Webb of Tunstall' ( LAVC/SRP/2/170). This includes Tape Tables of Contents for this and three other audio tapes submitted with the dissertation.


Whilst working on his B.A., Donald Mackay also undertook some fieldwork in South Yorkshire. This relates to the tradition of singing local Christmas carols in pubs in the region. His fieldwork notes [ms. and typed] from a visit in November 1970 to Penistone Working Men's Club, where he interviewed Bill Ward, are held in file LAVC/SRE/ARI/035 [tape not traced]. Similar fieldwork was undertaken in November/December 1970 in the Old Crown pub, Penistone, and the Mason's Arms in Thorpe Hesley, by Gus Grenfell [ P. Grenfell Smith]. The field notes are held in file LAVC/SRE/ARI/037 [tape not traced].
