Description

The Sheffield Ramblers and soloists singing carols and popular songs in the Robin Hood pub, Stannington, Sheffield, accompanied on the piano by Walter Duffield. Bernard Broadhead sings 'Song of the Swale', 'Garden Where the Praties Grow' and 'Phil the Fluters Ball'; Charlie Evison sings 'Fine Hunting Day'; Talman Clarke sings 'German Clockmender', and recites the parodic sermon 'Three Crows'/ 'Adolphus John'. The session also includes two piano medleys. Concludes on tape LAVC/SRE/A205r.

Physical and technical conditions

Batteries faded in the original tape recorder, affecting the first song. This recorded at 9.5cm/sec, followed by three at 4.75cm/sec. The rest of the recording was made at 9.5cm/sec. Speed adjusted on AC copy.
