Description

Assembled company singing carols in the Gate pub, Pilley, on 19 December 1970. The name of the piano accompanist is not known. Includes also the singing of some popular songs. [Tr. 1]


Assembled company and soloists singing carols in the Fountain pub, Ingbirchworth, on 20 December 1970. Cyril Latimer leads the company in 'Merry Christmas', and also sings 'Mary's Boy Child' and 'Tenderly Sleeping' (the latter with Jane Taylor). [Tr. 2]. Session continues on tape LAVCS/RE/A165r, and concludes on tape LAVC/SRE/A166r.

Physical and technical conditions

9.5cm/sec. The Pilley recording is affected by much pub background noise, and a varying recording level which causes some distortion. The first half of the Ingbirchworth recording is likewise affected by background noise. The second half is clearer, following the relocation of the microphone.
