Description
Jack White and Mrs. Jack White in conversation at their home in the Stannington area of Sheffield. Talk of family members; informant's birthplace; Castleton Wakes; haytime; schooling at Lydgate in Sheffield; local legend concerning the taking of gravestones from a local Quakers' Burial Ground, and the resultant souring of milk; Christmas; singing at the Three Merry Lads pub, Lodge Moor in Sheffield; local singers; discussion of the song 'Fulwood Farmers and Neighbours'. Margaret Marsden of Fulwood, Sheffield, recorded by Leslie Howarth in or around 1962. Sings 'Green Mossy Banks of the Lea', 'Betsy the Serving Maid' and 'Broken Token'. [Tr. 2]. This recording is a copy of Howarth's original, made by Ian Russell with the permission of Colin Howarth.
