Albert Broadhead and Bernard Broadhead recorded in one of their homes, in Sheffield, 13 May 1973. Talk of their family (brothers, sisters and parents); learning songs; Sheffield grinders (Little Mesters) and edge tools; Wesleyan Chapel; Boys' Brigade; local singers and singing styles; comic songs; learning from others; pub singing; Rambling Club and ramblers' song repertoire; discuss the song 'Swaledale'; local singers; Sheffield Orpheus; Irish ceilidhs (Hooleys) and visits to Ireland; cutlery cleaning and domestic work. Bernard Broadhead sings 'Jolly Grinder'[fragment], 'Brian O'Lynn' and 'Biddy Mulligan'.[Tr. 2]

Physical and technical conditions
9.5cm/sec and 4.75cm/sec. The recording of the Broadheads alternates between these two tape speeds, and speeds up towards the end as the tape recorder batteries fade. The batteries were evidently replaced and the final 11 minutes are audible.
