[Conclusion of interview with Mrs. Senior and Mrs. Woodhouse, recorded in Birdsedge, from tape LAVC/SRE/A083.] Explanation of ring game 'I Had a Pigeon in My Pocket' - Mrs. W. knew it as 'Lucy Locket Lost a Pocket'; talk of a chasing game (Wolf); both sing and explain 'Farmer's in his Den'; Mrs. W. cites the origins of 'Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush' - prisoners at Wakefield Prison, parading around a mulberry bush, used to sing it. [Tr. 3]


The rest of this tape contains the conclusion of the interview with Mrs. Frith and her daughter, which starts on tape LAVC/SRE/A079. Both discuss ball games; Mrs. Frith talks about games pre-television, crazes (e.g. tops); daughter recites the clapping game 'A Sailor Went to Sea Sea Sea'; talk of more counting-out rhymes, the skipping rhyme 'Wee Willy Winkie', the ball bouncing rhyme for 'One Two Three O' Laira'; Mrs. Frith talks about the village of Birdsedge, the community and the occupations of the villagers.
