Description
Children recorded in the playground of Birdsedge First School, Birdsedge, on the 8 November 1979; talking about and demonstrating the games and associated rhymes known to them. They give examples of ball-bouncing games, skipping rhymes and describe some skipping movements [girls]. [Tr. 1]
Boys discuss skipping rhymes, football, Army, tig and fighting; girls give skipping rhymes and clapping/ball game examples ( 'Down on One Knee'), a singing game ( 'When Suzy was a Baby'), a clapping game ( 'My father Went to Sea, Sea, Sea'), and some jokes. Children describe skipping games, clapping rhymes ( 'My father Went to Sea, Sea, Sea'), sing variation on the song 'Ten in the Bed', action songs 'Arka, Arka' and 'Chinese Restaurant', tell jokes and give the clapping game '3, 6, 9'. Recorded 15 November 1979. [Tr. 3]
