Description
Demolition work in progress in the area around Virginia Road, Leeds (West Yorkshire). The spired building in the centre of the image is the Clothworkers' Centenary Concert Hall, University of Leeds; and the building to the left of it is the back of the modern School of English main building.
Biography or history
The Survey of English Dialects was based in offices on Virginia Road until 1959. Much old terraced housing on the site of the University of Leeds campus was demolished to make way for new University buildings. This included housing on Virginia Road.
