Description
Copy of a photograph dating from the turn of the 19th/20th century, of a waggoner (head horseman or farm foreman) with a horse, on a farm at Thixendale (North Yorkshire). The horse is either a young stallion before breaking, or a stallion intended for rearing as an entire horse. The man's dress is typical of East Riding farm labourers, with corduroy bell-bottoms (often tied at the knee) and a double-breasted waistcoat or small jacket. (Although Thixendale is now situated in North Yorkshire, it lies close to the Yorkshire Wolds in the East Riding.)
