Description

Male demonstrating a cast-iron ropemaking device, Low Bells Shielon the River Tweed, near West Ord (Northumberland) (as pictured in LAVC/PHO/P1227). The device has three hand-forged hooks, and was used for making cable-laid rope from old (salmon) fishing nets. In this photograph, lengths of net are attached to each of the hooks and twisted. Mounted on Photo File card. With typed note.
