Description
This file contains a photocopy (made in the early 1970s) of part of an ms. notebook, with printed extracts pasted in, compiled by Sidney Oldall Addy probably during the 1870s. This includes ms. notes on the Pace Egg, pages from 'The Peace Egg' (Otley: William Walker, n.d.), 8 pp., consisting of a play text; ms. text of a calling-on song(?) collected from mummers at Norton in December 1877; ms. notes on the Hobby Horse; pages from 'Walkers' New Mummer' (Otley(?): William Walker(?), n.d.), featuring the 'The Grand Sword Dance', with ms. annotations, 8 pp.; an ms. note on the carol 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen', and pages with the texts to the carols 'God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen', 'The Wassail Cup Hymn' (with ms. annotations), 'The First Good Joy That Mary Had', 'Jacob's Well', 'A Virgin Unspotted the Prophet Foretold' and 'Awake, Arise Good Christians', from an unidentified publication(s).
