Description
This subseries contains items on housekeeping and domestic customs. The subjects represented include general housekeeping and domestic arrangements, fires and ovens, lighting, milk foods (i.e. butter and cheese), cookery and meals, luxuries (such as drink, tobacco, sweets) and hygiene and sanitation. There are specific files on cidermaking and brewing, oatcakes and snuff. There are also papers relating to an undergraduate student exercise for the degree in Folk Life Studies, which consisted of a survey of domestic eating arrangements.
