Description

Blueprint annotated and labelled diagram, 'The Broad Wheeled Sussex Waggon as Used in the Counties Sussex and Kent, Southern England, circa 1700-1930'. The diagrams are based on a wagon built by A. K. Hawes around 1870; a wagon built by William J. Tedham for Arthur Guinness and Sons in 1939; and data supplied by wheelwright F. Tedham of Northiam (East Sussex). Includes notes on the wagon and its specifications; and diagrams showing the wagon's flooring, fore and hind wheels, axles, fore and hind carriage, fastenings, harnessing and the positioning of the first chain and hind horses.

Pin holes in the four corners of the diagram suggest that it may have been displayed in the Institute of Dialect and Folk Life Studies.
