Description

A study of the dialect spoken in the Lincolnshire village of Rippingale, based on data collected through fieldwork interviews with three principal informants.

An introduction to the village and the informants is followed by four chapters which represent the phonology of sounds in the Rippingale dialect, recorded in 19[76], the development of Middle English sounds in the dialect (vowels of stressed and unstressed syllables), and present a tabular summary of Old English, Old French, Scandinavian and Middle English equivalents of sounds in the dialect. An Index of Words is included.
