Description

A study of the dialect spoken in two Cheshire villages, Davenham and Whitegate, based on interviews with three informants from each locality.

An introduction to the two villages and the six informants is followed by four chapters which present for both dialects descriptive accounts of their sounds, complete data for the two dialects, consonants, and a comparison of the two dialects. An index of all the words recorded by the collector is included, with each word transcribed phonemically and allophonically.
