Description

A study of the dialect spoken in the village of Delph, in the old West Riding of Yorkshire, based on an analysis of tape-recorded free conversation with ten local informants, interviewed by the collector during the Easter and summer of 1967. The Introduction includes information on the village and its location, and the collection, analysis and presentation of the data. Two chapters record the vowel and consonant sounds, and the vowel sound groups and consonant sound groups, of the dialect. An Appendix contains biographical notes on all the informants.

Although reference is made in the Introduction to the tape recording of informants, no tapes were submitted with the study.
