Biography or history

The Swedish Folk Museums course was the idea of Stewart Sanderson and Ingemar Liman, and was based on their view of the inadequacy of facilities for the training of young museum curators in the United Kingdom. A pilot course ran from 17 August - 2 September 1969, and consisted of lectures and talks, and visits to folk museums and archives in Sweden, including the open air museum at Skansen. Fifteen British and two Dutch curators attended the course. A note by Sanderson added to this file in October 1983 states that most of those who attended the course went on to have successful careers in the museums profession.

Ingemar Liman was at one time a lecturer at the Institute of Dialect and Folk Life Studies (IDFLS). At the time of devising and running the Swedish Folk Museums course he was based at the open air museum at Skansen.
