Description
This subseries comprises papers relating to the drafting and editing of the text for 'The Linguistic Atlas of England' (LAE), in preparation for publication. It includes Harold Orton's and Stewart Sanderson's ms. notes on editorial matters; ms. and typescript drafts of the preliminaries, foreword, general introduction, introduction to editorial and cartographic principles and methods, and introductions to the four different types of map; ms., typescript and photocopied background items; typed and corrected lists of headwords, legends and footnotes for the maps; typed and corrected drafts of the appendices; ms. and typescript lists and indexes; galley proofs; and a master proof of the complete publication.
