Description
Ms. record cards with phonetic data for Capheaton (sets (a) and (b)), Cullercoats and Newburn. These cards include data that does not occur in the Main or Locality Indexes. Cards for Capheaton (b) and Newburn were submitted with dialect theses supervised by Orton at Armstrong College, by Bowman (1930) and Spoor (1932) respectively. Cards for Cullercoats were compiled by W. H. Hoult around 1929-30, but it is uncertain as to whether this data was connected with a thesis. Cards for Capheaton (a) were compiled by Orton from his principal source for that locality.
The cards are arranged alphabetically by locality name. Cards for Newburn are arranged alphabetically by lexical item; cards for Capheaton (b) are arranged by Middle English vowel.
