Description
This album of newspaper cuttings and other papers was collected by Lilian Gaunt, wife of Professor Leonard Braithwaite. The greater part of the album is concerned with Braithwaite and his activities as a surgeon in Leeds. There is also information about Lord Moynihan, who Braithwaite was closely associated with, and other work colleagues of Braithwaite's including Mr Arthur Richardson and Mr Harold Collinson.
Braithwaite graduated from the Yorkshire College in 1903. He became a House Surgeon, then a resident surgical officer. In 1907 he was awarded (FRCS (Fellowship of The Royal College of Surgeons). In 1909 he became an Assistant Surgeon in the LGI (Leeds General Infirmary) to Moynihan. He was appointed Lecturer in Surgery 1911, Consultant Surgeon in 1924, and Professor of Clinical Surgery 1936-1938. On his retirement in 1938 he was made Honorary Consulting Surgeon and an Emeritus Professor. He was Vice President of the RCS (The Royal College of Surgeons of England) council in 1933. He died 18 Dec 1942.
