Description
Biography: Annie Redman King, née Peniston, was a Leeds graduate who gained her first class B.Sc. Honours degree in Botany in 1913. At about the same time, she married William O. Redman King, a scholar in animal physiology who had worked with Professor Jacques Loeb at Berkeley, San Francisco, and the Rockefeller Institute, New York, before becoming an assistant lecturer/demonstrator in the Zoology Department at the University of Leeds. William Redman King was to die of influenza before release from First World War Service. Annie Redman King went on to become Warden of Weetwood Hall (for women students), 1919-1948. Until 1946 she taught in the Department of Zoology, and for many years also taught zoology to Medical students. She was encouraged in her choice of career by the Vice-Chancellor, Michael Sadler.
