Early marginal annotations on A6r obscured by a piece of paper attached to the leaf edge at an early date.
Page numbers 1-50 supplied in ink manuscript at the outer top corners of versos and rectos until e3r.
A tear at the bottom of A6r has been mended.
Mends to the paper of the first leaf and title page.
Water damage to the first four leaves.
The leaves are slightly cockled.
Some worm damage to the outer margins of the text block.
Bindings
Early twentieth-century binding of parchment over pasteboard. Written in black ink manuscript on the smooth spine are the words: Asconius - Ciceronis in orationes. Commentarii. Watermark on the leaf preceding the title page of a circle containing a scales. Size: 316 x 216mm. Leaf size: 310 x 210mm.
Provenance
Coloured armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the front pastedown. The book was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
