Features
Some worm damage to the pigskin on the upper and lower covers and spine, and to the final leaves of the text block.
The edges have been severely cropped.
Bindings
Late seventeenth- or early eighteenth-century quarter binding of vellum manuscript over pasteboard with a pigskin back. In very neat manuscript on the vellum is a late fourteenth- or early fifteenth-century rubricated musical text. Two slots in each of the upper and lower covers suggest they were once fastened together with ties or thongs. The spine has four raised bands on which are pasted two pared black leather lettering pieces. Gold-tooled between fillets on the lettering piece in the second panel are the words: Constantii Applani. Gold-tooled between fillets and a scallop design on the lettering piece in the third panel is the word: Soliloq. The leaf edges are sprinkled red. Size: 183 x 160mm. Leaf size: 176 x 146mm.
Provenance
Written in black ink manuscript at the top right of the title page is the inscription, partially cropped: Magister Georgius [...]
Small blue and white armorial bookplate of Lord Brotherton on the front pastedown. The book was most likely acquired after 17 June 1929 when Sir Edward Allen Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
