Bound (as item 30) within a volume of mainly printed pamphlets, dated 1687-89, in the same hand as the other manuscript writing in the volume.
William Sancroft (1617-1693), Archbishop of Canterbury and non-juror. For details of his life and achievements, see the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
Apparently a contemporary copy of Wing S562, dated 1688. The volume is shelved at Brotherton Collection Pol HAL.
Petition signed by Sancroft and six other bishops criticising James II's second Declaration of Indulgence, promulgated in May 1688, for which they were briefly imprisoned in the Tower of London. The other signatories are the bishops of Chichester, St Asaph, Ely, Bath and Wells, Peterborough, and Bristol.
