On verso of t.p.: The first of these Poems appeared in 'The Sphere' war number, December 7, 1914; the second in 'King Albert's Book,' December 16, 1914. This is one of twenty copies, which have, with the author's permission, and with his corrections, been privately printed by Clement Shorter for distribution among his friends.

Bound with 11 other publications in volume lettered on spine A Bookman's Hobby: Series I (item 6 in the Shorter Collection). All booklets bound in their original wrappers.. Volume contents: 1. Hardy, T.: Song of the soldiers. 1914. Includes a letter from Hardy to Edward Clodd (29.6.1919 birthday greetings to Clodd pessimistic about peace settlement) and a letter from Shorter to Clodd (20.9.1917 sending him this booklet) inserted in, and a poem In Time of Slaughter by Hardy pasted in from 'Spectator' (19 Aug 1916) on the back of t.p. - - 2.
