Bindings
Eighteenth-century binding of red goatskin over pasteboard. The upper and lower covers are decorated with broad gold-tooled dentelle borders. The turn-ins and board edges are gold-tooled with a repeating pattern and the book has gilt edges. The spine is smooth and gold-tooled with fillets to form panels which are decorated with flower sprays and stars. Gold-tooled onto a pared black leather lettering piece on the spine are the words Martialis Aldi 1501. Above the lettering piece is a circular pinked library label with details in ink manuscript: Row I V.5 28. B.L.L. The book has pale blue silk doublures and a pale blue silk ribbon register. Size: 163 x 104mm. Leaf size 158 x 95mm.

Armorial bookplate on the front pastedown with the words Liber Johannis Naylor Leightonensis, probably John Naylor (1813-1889) of Leighton Hall near Welshpool, Powys.
A cutting from a sale catalogue is pasted on the verso of the front free endpaper. The price of the book is listed as £10.10s.
