Bindings

Late fifteenth- or early sixteenth century binding, probably German, of dark brown calf over pasteboard. The upper and lower covers are blind-tooled with a panel design comprising quarduple fillets and small single stamps. The spine is smooth and is decorated with diagonal fillets. The covers are flush with the text block. There is indistinct lettering in black ink manuscript on the tail-edge. The corners are worn and there are slight losses to the head edge of the lower cover and the base of the spine. Size: 305 x 215mm. Leaf size: 305 x 210mm.

Provenance

Owner's stamp in blue on the outer margin of the first leaf: G.W.B.D.. This is the stamp of the Counts of Waldbott-Basseheim (Gräflich von Waldbott-Bassenheim'sche Domanialverwaltung).

Pencil manuscript accession number 4089 at bottom of the first leaf. Date of accession to the Library of the University of Leeds can be identified as 3 May 1921. The book was purchased from the vendor Hiersemann for M960 with money from the General fund.
