Bindings
Binding of full calf over new wooden boards, rebacked. Older calfskin has been retained on the upper and lower covers both of which are blind-tooled with a border of double fillets and a repeating pattern of small triangles. The new spine has five raised bands. Gold-tooled in the second panel are the words: Nicolaus de Lyra - Repert. in postill. Gold-tooled in the fourth panel is the date: 1494. Size: 242 x 180mm. Leaf size: 229 x 168mm.
Provenance
An early inscription in black ink manuscript on the title page reads: 1494 Pro Conuentu Znoymensi Frum Min: [...]. The book was once in the possession of the Franciscan Convent in the Moravian town of Znojmo (Znaim), now in the Czech Republic.
At the top of the front pastedown is a printed Yorkshire College Library label detailing library borrowing terms and retained from a previous binding.
At the bottom of the front pastedown is a printed label recording the presentation of the book to the Library of the Yorkshire College in 1892 by the Rev. Charles Hargrove.
