Description

10 items of correspondence between Geoffrey Hill and correspondents at the Poetry Book Society. Includes:

- 2 typescript letters from Charles Osborne to Hill (21 May 1968 - 3 September 1968), and 2 cc typescript letters from Hill to Osborne (23 August 1968 - 21 September 1968); Osborne's letter of 21 May 1968 includes Hill's ms draft of his short text on King Log for inclusion in the Poetry Book Society Bulletin; Hill's letter of 23 August 1968 is held with a copy of the Poetry Book Society Bulletin no. 58 (Autumn 1968) which includes Hill's Annunciations, with his ms corrections to the poem as printed;

- 1 typescript letter from Eric W. White to Hill (4 June 1971);

- 1 cc ms letter from Hill to the Poetry Book Society (24 November 1971), and 1 typescript letter in reply from Jonathan Barker to Hill (26 November 1975); Hill's cc letter accompanied by a photocopy of his response to a permissions request from the Publishing Division at the Open University;

- 2 typescript letters from Josephine Falk to Geoffrey Hill 1 June 1978 - 10 July 1978), and 1 cc typescript letter from Hill to Falk (5 July 1978), accompanied by a cc typescript of his short text on Tenebrae for the Poetry Book Society Bulletin. Interfiled with the correspondence are a cc typescript of Hill short text on 'Mercian Hymns' for the 'Poetry Book Society Bulletin' with a copy of the 'Poetry Book Society Bulletin' no. 69 (Summer 1971) including the text, 3 copies of the 'Poetry Book Society Bulletin' no. 97 (Summer 1978) including Hill's short text on his 'Tenebrae', and a press release from the Poetry Book Society for October 1978 announcing 'Tenebrae' as the Society's 'Autumn Choice.'Also held in the file is a copy of the 'Poetry Book Society Bulletin' no. 65 (Summer 1970); and a typescript (3 ff) with title Geoffrey Hill: Notes for the 'Poetry Book Society Bulletin' referring to 'The Orchards of Syon' and writing poetry since 1992, with ms corrections and notes [2002].
