Description
"The second English edition of the Septuagint... With a preface ["Præfatio parænetica"] by John Pearson" (D. & M.) The text professedly follows that of the Sixtine edition of 1587. A Greek Testament and a Greek version of the Book of Common Prayer were printed uniformly with this edition, and are often found with it.
There are at least five issues, differing by the presence or absence of the Apocrypha; by having one of two typesettings of the Apocrypha, if present; and by having one of three typesettings of the title-page and preface. - In this issue, the Apocrypha is present (in the typesetting with p. 269-272 misnumbered 469-472); the title-page has device with pegasus at the top; last line of preface begins "Isaacus". (D. & M. note that the device is "like that used by the Wechel press" and say that this is "probably a reissue by a continental printer who had bought a supply of the sheets from Field or [his successor] Hayes")
The first 6 words of the title-page are in Greek type.
The text is printed in 2 columns, divided into verses, without notes.
p. 1-19, preface (in Latin); p. [1], list of books; p. 1-755, Genesis - Esther; p. 1-516, Job - Malachi; p. 1-273, Apocrypha
Indexed in: Darlow & Moule 4701/4702, variant C; Wing (2nd ed., 1994) B2719 (not distinguishing the issues)
