Ring-bound notebooks compiled by Abercrombie, containing (a) his notes on articles and books relating principally to phonetics read by Abercrombie (26 notebooks); (b) his notes on phonetic terms (4 notebooks) and phonetic symbols (1 notebook); (c) 2 notebooks forming an index to the rest of the collection.

Biography or history

David Abercrombie was one of britains leading phpneticians and began his teaching career at The Unniversity of Leeds. He was the son of Poet Lascelles Abercrombie.

Provenance

On his death his papers were passed onto the Department of Phoenetics and Linguistics and the University of Leeds who donated them to The university of Leeds Cultural Collection to allow for easier access for scholars.
