Description
Gothic type; two columns to a page.
First edition of the so-called "Great" Bible, a revision by Coverdale of the "Matthew" Bible of 1537. Sometimes called "Cromwell's Bible" from the fact that the revision was undertaken at the instance of Thomas Cromwell, earl of Essex.
Text in 5 pts.: Pentateuch, Joshua to Job, Psalms to Malachi, Apocrypha, and New Testament. Pts.2-5 have each a special title-page and separate foliation.
Mistakes in foliation are the following: in the third series, xviii-xix (for xvii-xviii), xxxviii (for xxxvii), lxxiiii (for lxxv), xciii (for cxii), cxxx-cxxxiiii (for cxxviii-cxxxii); in the fourth series, lii-liii (for l-li), clviii (for lvii), clviii (for lviii), clix (for lix), lxi (for lxxx); in the fifth series, vi (for iv).

Additional description
Imperfect, wanting sig. * (6 preliminary leaves, including the general title-page with woodcut border ascribed to Holbein), the title-page to the New Testament, and the last leaf Nn8. All these have been suppied in facsimile. Also wanting is the blank leaf Q4. Damaged corners and margins have been repaired throughout. Text is defective on a1 and BB6
