Description
In verse.
This edition of the "Annæ-dicata" appears only in the four known nonce-collections. The eccentric pagination (unnumbered title-leaf, followed by pp.95-121, with a blank unnumbered leaf between pp.102-3 and signatures O-R4, S2) is common to all known copies. It is not known whether it ever was, or was intended to be, issued as part of a larger work.
Anon., by George Tooke.
Indexed in: Wing T1892.
Additional description
Bound with four other publications by Tooke, probably privately issued thus as a nonce-collection, three similar collections being known to exist. MS ownership inscription of Roger and Rachel Conningsbye, 1670, on recto of final blank of the whole volume. MS notes on Tooke, all in the same 19th-century hand, have been inserted at the beginning and end of the volume 2 leaves, on Tooke's wife and house, at the beginning of the fourth item, and facing its p.105 a fourth leaf preceding p.1 of the final item and a smaller note following the title-page of the first item. Bookplate of John Towneley [?(1697-1782)] pasted inside front cover, also printed slip with the name of Revd. Willm. Tooke (the writer of the MS notes?) [?(1744-1820)]. Two sale notices for the volume 1817 and 1819 respectively, with MS notes of date, price etc., also pasted inside front cover a further MS note relating to the 1819 sale written on Towneley's bookplate. Volume contents: 1. The Belides, 1660. -- 2.
The history of Cales passion, 1654. -- 3. The deplorable tragedie of Floris, [1654]. -- 4. Annæ-dicata, [1652?]. 5. The Belides, 1659
