Description

Originally issued in 5 numbers. Wrappers of individual numbers state that it is the second edition, despite having "Tenth edition... [etc.]" on the title-page.

This edition untraced elsewhere. As 'Fatherless Fanny', 1819, is generally agreed not to be by Clara Reeve (d. 1807), the author of 'The old English baron', the reviser of this anonymous translation of Cottin's 'Elisabeth', may well be another author, especially as this title does not appear to be listed elsewhere amongst her works.

Pp. 115-120: "Female heroism. A fact related by Meissnier".

Anon., translated from the French of Sophie Cottin, by Clara Reeve [?].
