Comprises a manuscript school essay illustrated by photographs from a family album.
Biography or history
Charles Hewitt's great-grandfather, Joseph Hewitt, played a leading role in the formation of the Barnsley Pals battalions in 1914. Joseph Hewitt was a solicitor and became an advisor to the Coal Controller in World War One. In 1914 he became the Lieutenant- Colonel of the Barnsley Pals which was the Barnsley Battalion of the York and Lancaster Regiment.
