Description

'Soldier's Own Diary' (1918) signed by A. G. Old; W. Beach Thomas newspaper report of May 1918 battle; 2 portraits of A. G. Old in uniform.

Biography or history

Old, Arthur Gregor (1899-1987). Lived in Cardiff. Private, later Lance Corporal, serving with the 4th Manchester & 2nd East Lancashire Regiments on the Western Front. According to donors, Lewis gunner at Battle of the Somme (1916), caught Spanish influenza at end of war.

The papers were placed in the Collection by R Old (son) & Pat Beale (daughter) in April 2013 (LC13/08). See Research Correspondence File under BEALE.
