Manuscript letter from John Henry Gilbert ('Tubby') Box to Victor Banfield, relating to the death of 'Robbie' (30 Apr 1918); National Registration certificate (4 Mar 1919); Identity and Provisional Protection certificate (17 Mar 1919); Typescript obituary of John Henry Gilbert ('Tubby') Box (d 1973) who had saved Victor Banfield's life whilst acting as a stretcher bearer on the Western Front [1973]; List of places served on Western Front, 25 Jan 1917-24 Jan 1919 (nd).

Biography or history

Banfield, Victor (1897-1975). Gunner, 5th (City of London) Battalion, London Regiment and "D" Company, 2nd Battalion, London Rifle Brigade, from Nov 1915, serving on the Western Front. Discharged 20 Feb 1919. Also served with the Home Guard during the Second World War.
