Typescript recollections 'Random Recollections of the First World War 1914-1918', by HC Merrett and edited by DJ Merrett (donor), with Word 6.0 copy on disc (c 1999); Typescript Unit War Diaries relating to No. 517 (London) Field Company, Royal Engineers, Aug 1914-Dec 1918 (nd); Typescript recollections 'Record of No. 517 (London) Field Company during the 1914/18 War' by Colonel AG Birch, who was rescued by HC Merrett at Hill 60 during the Battle of the Somme (nd); Photocopy of letter from DJ Merrett (donor) to Peter Liddle, containing some factual details (20 Aug 1999).
Biography or history
Merrett, H C. Born in London. Royal Engineers, possibly with No. 517 (London) Field Company, serving on the Western Front from Jan 1915. Awarded the Military Medal for rescuing AG Birch who was wounded at Hill 60 during the Battle of the Somme.
