Typed transcript of an interview recorded with Peter Liddle (June 1978).

Biography or history

Hill, J C (b 1888). Born in Glasgow and trained as a teacher at Glasgow University and in Newcastle. Commissioned in the reserve Battalion, Durham Light Infantry Regiment before transferring to the Special Brigade, Royal Engineers, and serving in on the Western Front from Aug 1915 (Loos). Specialized in gas warfare and was chemical advisor to 8th Corps.
