Description

Consists of 45 coloured maps, variously dated from 1574 to 1579, which represent the earliest survey of England and Wales. There is one general map of England and Wales; 24 are maps of single counties; 6 are of pairs of counties, viz: Warwick with Leicester, Lincoln and Notts., Westmorland and Cumberland, Montgomery and Merioneth, Denbigh and Flint, and Anglesey and Carnarvon; 1 of three counties, Oxford, Berkshire and Buckingham; 2 containing four counties each, Kent, Sussex, Surrey and Middlesex, and Radnor, Brecknock, Cardigan and Caermarthen; and 1 of five counties, Northampton, Cambridge, Bedford, Huntingfon and Rutland.


Maps are drawn by Christopher Saxton and engr. by Augusting Ryther, Remigius Hogenberg, Leonard Terwoort, Nicholas Reynolds, Cornelius Hogius and Francis Scatter.
